I don't always plan productive days in advance. Today while I was out running errands I decided to pick up some mulch, herbs and flowers from the garden shop. I think it may have something to do with procrastinating with my income taxes. It was such a nice sun-shiny day it just seemed right I should be outside sprucing up the yard and not inside at my desk staring at a computer screen.
I began around 11 am, stopped for a half hour lunch at 1 o'clock and continued another three hours. As I finally sat down outside to admire my work, my body told me it worked hard. Why is it that my body speaks to me now but didn't when I was young? It's definitely speaking to me now and demanding a jacuzzi tonight.

I spread seven out of the ten bags of mulch I bought and planted petunias and marigolds in the flower beds. I also did my herb planting of basil, cilantro and mint. Since my lavender did so well last year I bought and planted another one of those too. I love the scent of lavender and basil floating in the air! A few neighbors stopped by. One introduced himself saying we never met and offered his hand! I showed him mine caked in dirt and told him he might want to rethink giving mine a shake!
There is something so healing and satisfying in planting living things and watching them grow. As another spring moves into and then out of our lives making way for another summer ... things will continue to change. Life and gardens never stay the same.
Most of the country is still immersed in winter weather. We're not out of the woods yet either, but I had to get outside today and begin. I'm not finished. There's lots more to be done, but I got a good start on my spring planting.
The white petunias are going to be big and beautiful in a couple of weeks! I planted some seeds today and moved a few succulents into bigger pot yesterday. Spring is definitely in the air!
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to have a quick coffee date with Jenni last week. :)
